The "coonclub" sign represents the local hunting club I do believe? Where it is located I have no idea.

Racoon hunting has been a sport for hundreds of years here in the South. Many a young man has had to go thru this rite of passage on his way to manhood learning basic firearm safety and hunting skills for bigger game. It is still a fantastic way for the fathers and sons to spend a bonding day in the woods with other men and now women of the South.

This club is situated off US Hwy 521 between I-95 ans the city of Sumter, SC. It brought many fond memories of my childhood with my older brother and the neighbor hunters.

Having driven a Jeep through the woods now for several years (and even hit one or too) I have dodged hundred if not thousands of trees in the forest. I have never encountered one in the paved road though.

I believe this is located at S. Lemacks and Hwy 17A in the town of Walterboro. The photo was taken facing toward Hwy 17A.

Going thru the woods (who knows where) I come across this sign in a National Forest. Now, I would normally be te first to tell ya, "Thar ain't no trails for full sized vehicles," in them woods but then I'd be wrong I guess.

Thar's the sign.

Anyone know what forest and where the sign is located?

My guess is this trail is located in the FMNF up around the Jamestown area just off of Buckle Island Road around Halfway Creek Road.

I guess it could also be considered the Sumter National Forest as well. Very Happy

Well, that was too easy, no, it is the FMNF. I think they're in the same District though.

Well actually, it isn't in the FMNF because it is west of Halfway Creek Rd. And Shepards Trail intersects with Buckle Island RD. I have to be honest, I found it on Streets and Trips sitting here at my desk. Shocked

Again, during my travels I found another place in the LC that looks inviting for an afternoon picknic.

Getting there.

Some scenery.

Anyone been there before?

Those last couple of pictures were taken in a place on Daniels Island, near a park.

Enjoyed spotting this while on a job downtown. Whatever happened to it's eye's?

And but a stones throw from there, was this neat home. Notice the old stock (boat) anchor stored/displayed under the lamp and between the windows.

Just around to the side of the house was the back entrance.

Out of fear that I might have to walk the plank, I didn't venture there even tho the gate was open!

Anyone that might the general area???
