When I turn my wheel hard left or right, sitting still, I get a big mettalic squeel. Like springs flexing or something. No leaks seen, full fluid. Confused

not sure, but it sounds like "mall crawler syndrome". Laughing

Just kidding. Metallic squeel? Over travel from lock to lock? Only issue I've seen that makes a lot of noise at the outer limits of travel.

Doesn't do it at lock but during turning when sitting still.

maybe the shaft that goes into the steering box is rubbing something?

Confused Confused Confused

I had my daughter turn the wheel whil I looked, but I couldn't pin -point it. Might have to ask Tim or someone close to drop by after work for a second set of ears to listen. I'm having no trouble steering when driving and no noise, just when sitting still.

Don't know where my post from this morning went.

Have you lubed all the steering components?

It's your belt- It's loose/worn and slipping on the pulley. Tighten it- but look closely because it's probably has tiny cracks- dry-rot. Better off replacing it.

You're not hearing it while driving because the wheels are turning and there isn't much force being applied to the belt (as opposed to being parked).

Well, I was under the jeep looking over my diff leak and decided since the squeel hadn't gone away yet, I hit all the joints again with a little squirt of grease. Second time was a charm as there is no noise at all now. I had to have put enough on last time with no luck so do't know why it worked this time. All bolts are tight, belts tight, fluids full. Sure wish a squirt of grease would fix the leak though.
